What can I do?

Given recent events, people are asking, “what can I do?”  Up2Us Golden is a group dedicated to helping community members engage with the democratic process so that they can protect vulnerable residents, democracy, and the rights of all people. The organization’s Immigrant Partnership Action Team encourages people to take part in one of the actions below.  For more information about getting involved, trained, and mentored in these, please reach out to us at info@up2usgolden.org.

  • Volunteer for Court Watch at the federal immigration court in Denver to provide important information and resources, monitor for ICE presence and observe in courtrooms. Shifts are 2-hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am-4:00 pm. Here is a training video.

  • Participate in ICE Watch outside the ICE office in Centennial most Saturdays and several weekdays each month. Updates are in the Golden IPT weekly emails. (To sign up for Golden IPT, contact us.)

  • Monitor for SB 25-276: Educate public entities in Jefferson County about the new Colorado law and make sure they have required policies in place.  The institutions affected by this policy are schools, childcare centers, public health centers, hospitals, libraries and colleges. In person and Zoom training are available.  Learn more

  • Visit local businesses to share information about the rights of business owners and employees. We are partnering with the Jefferson Unitarian Church Immigrant Support Team for business outreach in Golden and other Jefferson County locations. Training, scripts, and resources are provided to volunteers.

  • Distribute bags at the Geo Detention Center in Aurora containing snacks, water, Know Your Rights flyers, and resource information to people visiting their loved ones. Casa de Paz recently began a project that you are invited to join. If you are interested in learning about providing these bags during a 2 hour shift, there are two Golden IPT members who will arrange a time when you can join them to “try it out.”
